Jakarta (ANTARA) - The intellectual property of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) must be protected in order to promote MSMEs and, at the same time, strengthen people's pride in local products, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said.

He made the statement at the peak event of the 2022 World Intellectual Property Day commemoration at the Vice President's Palace, here on Tuesday.

"With more and more MSMEs in the creative economy sector whose intellectual property is recognized, both personal and communal, I hope this will further strengthen people's pride in Indonesian-made products,” the Vice President remarked.

He said that for the success of the ‘Proudly Made in Indonesia National Movement,’ it is not enough to raise the slogan, instead, active participation in using local products, while respecting intellectual property, must be encouraged.

He said the government hopes that the intellectual property of at least 20 percent of the approximately 64 million MSMEs in Indonesia can be protected.

During Tuesday’s event, the Vice President also emphasized that the protection of intellectual property is an urgent need and an important aspect of empowering MSMEs to reach a better level.

He reminded all parties that innovation and creativity in the MSME sector can play a very significant role in economic recovery efforts after the COVID-19 pandemic.
