Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government has opened the Jakarta Future City Hub at the Jakarta Box (JB) Tower, Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, to provide workspaces to digital micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

"We hope this facility will inspire the digital ecosystem in Jakarta to grow bigger," Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said on the 23rd floor of JB Tower on Thursday.

The opening of workspace stations is the result of a collaboration between the Jakarta provincial government, through the Jakarta Smart City, and the Berlin government under the Smart Change project funded by the European Union.

Baswedan said the hub has been built to allow entrepreneurs, startups, and digital workers to collaborate.

"We hope this place would facilitate them to meet with each other in an effort to build interaction, mutual learning, sharing experiences, exchanging ideas, and working together," he remarked.

The core of digital development is collaboration, he added. He said he hoped the hub would encourage job creation by empowering entrepreneurs and enabling cross-sectoral collaboration.

"Right now, every sector is collaborating. We hope in September, this place could run properly," he added.

On the same occasion, the German Ambassador to Indonesia, Ina Lepel, said that her party supports the initiative as part of the Sister City collaboration between Jakarta and Berlin.

"Urban development and further development of the start-up ecosystem are the two main interests that both cities share," Ambassador Lepel said.

According to the Jakarta provincial government, the Jakarta-Berlin collaboration is expected to ensure contributions for Jakarta residents in the form of economic access and technology for improving their lives.

Later, there will be two main services offered at the Jakarta Future City Hub, including entrepreneurship support programs that address non-physical needs such as training, networking, and co-working space.

The hub will also provide communal spaces to support the sustainability of Jakarta's business ecosystem.
