Kupang, E Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - A fisherman from East Sumba District, East Nusa Tenggara, who reportedly went missing while fishing in the ocean, was found dead by the joint search and rescue (SAR) team on Thursday.

"The joint SAR team found the victim in a deceased state during its second day of search efforts," Chief of Kupang's Class A Search and Rescue Office Emi Freezer stated in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, Thursday.

The victim, identified as 62-year-old Hoki Bangapura from East Sumba's Mondu Village, was reported missing at Lawitu Beach on Wednesday (May 4).

Freezer noted that Bangapura was found dead by the joint SAR team during a search and rescue effort along the west direction of the coast, around 10 kilometres from the location where he was reported missing.

His remains were immediately taken to the nearest hospital in East Sumba and handed over to his family members soon thereafter.

"Following an identification process, the remains had then been handed over to the family," Freezer stated while applauding the work of the joint SAR team that managed to find the victim in around two days.
