Wishnuwardhani emphasized that the BSU program aims to maintain the purchasing power of workers and laborers, who are entitled to it, as well as serve as a stimulus for economic recovery.
"BSU reflected that the government cares and is concerned about the condition of the people, especially laborers and workers," Wishnuwardhani noted in a press release here on Saturday.
He explained that the 2022 BSU targets workers or laborers, with salaries below Rp3.5 million.
He noted that beneficiaries of the assistance are laborers or workers registered as active participants of the Workers Social Security Agency's (BPJS Ketenagakerjaan's) Program and those who are not civil servants and members of the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the National Police (Polri).
He expressed optimism that assistance provided by the government would support workers and laborers to strengthen their economic resilience.
Wishnuwardhani pointed out that several other countries had implemented the wage subsidy policy while citing the example of Canada that had provided subsidy to businesses or employers in 2021 to prevent job losses due to the decrease in revenue amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The difference as compared to us is (that in Indonesia,) the subsidy assistance is provided directly to workers and laborers," he stated.
The Indonesian government has allocated Rp8.8 trillion for wage subsidy, of which each beneficiary will receive Rp1 million.
The Ministry of Manpower is currently striving to immediately finalize the details of the criteria and mechanism of the disbursement, so that the 2022 BSU can be immediately distributed and offer benefits to the beneficiaries.
"The Presidential Staff Office has provided support, so that the BSU program can be implemented immediately and run effectively. The KSP also invites various elements of society to jointly monitor and support the implementation of this BSU program," the KSP main expert staff remarked.
