"In this second meeting of the G20 EdWG, we will strengthen our commitment to recover together. The Minister of Education and Technology will also convey various breakthroughs in the Freedom of Learning as an inspiration for developed and developing countries to transform the education sector," chair of the G20 EdWG, Iwan Syahril, said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The second meeting of G20 EdWG is being held online on May 18 and 19, 2022. During the meeting, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology will lead discussions on several topics.
Delegates will focus on two priority agendas at the meeting, namely quality education for all and the use of digital technology in education. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology will also lead the preparation of the G20 EdWG’s report and the draft ministerial-level education declaration.
At the second meeting of the EdWG, the ministry will also initiate discussions to renew the global commitment to education ahead of the United Nations’ (UN's) Transforming Education Summit (TES).
TES will seek to mobilize enthusiasm, commitment, and greater political will to reverse the setbacks of the fourth sustainable development goals (SDGs), reorganize/reimagine education, and accelerate the progress of education and the 2030 SDG Agenda.
The second meeting of G20 EdWG is being attended virtually by delegates from G20 countries, specially invited countries, international organizations, as well as the G20 working and engagement groups.
"We are optimistic that Indonesia and friendly countries can work together to reimagine the education system and provide benefits that can be felt by all people equally," Syahril said.
He also expressed his gratitude and pride for the collaboration between delegates at the inaugural meeting of the G20 EdWG.

“I appreciate the spirit of mutual cooperation of the delegates at the first meeting of the G20 EdWG. This mutual cooperation can be seen from how the delegates also appreciate the value of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) that we promote, as well as share initiatives and strategies in accordance with the four priority agendas in the education sector," he said.
The four priority agendas are quality education for all, use of digital technology in education, solidarity and partnerships, and the future of the world of work post-COVID-19, Syahril added.
In addition to discussing the four priority agendas, the ministry, at the inaugural meeting of G20 EdWG, had the opportunity to invite delegates to experience Indonesian culture in Yogyakarta and Magelang, Central Java. The delegates also visited Borobudur Temple and Prambanan Temple.
