"We provide support for the metaverse utilization for things that are positive and beneficial for the future of Indonesia, and for digital space that is beneficial to the Indonesian economy," Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate said.
He made the statement at an event entitled "Acceleration of Digital Literacy in Welcoming Future Technology,” which was held at Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday.
According to the minister, technological developments such as the metaverse are inevitable. Thus, Indonesia needs to follow technological advancement while preparing digital talents.
"We encourage the adoption of the metaverse to grow in Indonesia," Plate remarked.

The government is currently accelerating the development of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure, such as the operation of fiber optic cables and the building of backbone infrastructure, large-capacity satellites, and base transceiver station (BTS) towers, he informed.
The infrastructure push is aimed at supporting the development of national capital (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan, which is linked to digital connectivity, he pointed out.
"We also hope that IKN is supported by the metaverse," Plate said.
Reflecting on several Southeast Asian countries that are also developing the metaverse, including Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam, the Communication and Informatics Minister said that the development of cyberspace must align with the ethics and morals of Indonesia.
"In line with the existing regulations, with the moral ethics that apply in Indonesia, (so) it does not clash with our cultural and religious values," Plate said.
With the quickness with which the telecommunications and communication infrastructure is being developed, the ministry expects the digital space to be utilized for positive activities.
