This year, we target to achieve 100 producers for intensive communicationJakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry's Directorate General of Garbage, Waste, and Hazardous and Toxic Materials Management has confirmed the target for some 100 companies to submit their waste reduction road map this year.
"This year, the director general has set a target for us to encourage more producers to conceive and deliver the (waste reduction) planning document to us. This year, we target to achieve 100 producers for intensive communication," Directorate General's Head of Producers Management Sub-directorate, Solihin Sidik, stated during the "National Dialogue of Waste Reduction for Producers" virtual event observed here on Tuesday.
The sub-directorate head then expressed optimism that intensive communication would expedite the process to achieve the target of 100 companies this year and smooth the progress to achieve the target for producers to reduce 30 percent of waste from products and/or product packaging by 2029.
The ministry had earlier received a waste reduction plan from 33 producers in accordance with Minister Regulation No. 75 of 2019 on the Waste Reduction Roadmap by Producers, he noted.
He also urged other corporations in the manufacturing, retail, and food and beverage industries to communicate with the ministry regarding the drafting of the waste reduction plan.
Sidik explained that waste reduction measures adopted by producers will bolster opportunities in the sustainable green economy sector in the form of social entrepreneurship, such as the development of bulk stores and waste collector businesses to reuse the garbage.
The sub-directorate head urged producers to not perceive the waste reduction plan as a burden but instead as an opportunity to develop a sustainable business.
"I am indeed not expecting that in three years, our industries continue thriving, and we hope this would present a good opportunity and momentum. In essence, new business opportunities will arise with new regulations," he remarked.
