Davos (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, highlighted the acceleration of energy transition in emerging and developing economies while speaking as a panelist at the World Economic Forum (WEF) workshop.

He also underlined Indonesia's commitment to a fair and affordable energy transition, the importance of investing in the energy transition sector, and the need for energy transition regulations.

The workshop, held in Davos, Switzerland, on Monday, discussed the energy transition mechanism and emphasized the need for collaboration among several parties including governments, the private sector, and the global community.

The speakers and participants at the workshop included delegates from several countries, multinational companies, multilateral development banks, investors in the energy sector, and the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The panelists included chairman and managing director of ReNew Power, HSBC Group’s chief sustainability officer, and executive director of the International Energy Agency. Meanwhile, Bezos Earth Fund’s president and CEO, Andrew Steer, moderated the discussion.

Several topics were taken up during the panel discussion, including collaboration and business models needed to quickly shift from commitment to concrete action that supports the energy transition.

The topics also covered developing a financing mechanism that has the potential to open up and increase future investment to support renewable energy and decarbonization technologies, ensuring that green finance is connected to actual needs on the ground, and the best practices in developed countries.

The delegates also discussed how developing countries and emerging economies can take advantage of opportunities for the necessary transition from coal to renewable energy, the steps to create a Renewable Energy Zone, and the actions that need to be taken to ensure access to clean energy for millions of people who are energy-starved and achieve the SDG targets.
