Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) will deliver a speech at the opening ceremony of the seventh Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center on May 25, 2022.

Deputy for system and strategy at the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), Raditya Jati, conveyed the information at the GPDRR Media Center on Tuesday.

"President Jokowi will attend and deliver a speech at the GPDRR opening ceremony. He will be present with high-ranking officials from both international partnerships and domestic partners as well," Jati informed.

The opening ceremony will mark the start of the main activities of GPDRR, which will include thematic sessions and other events, he added.

In addition, several international officials, including deputy secretary-general of the United Nations (UN), Amina J. Mohammed; UN special envoy for disaster risk reduction, Mami Mizutori; president of the UN General Assembly, Abdulla Shahid; and Vice President of Zambia, Mutale Nalumango, will also attend the event.

"More than 30 ministers from various countries will also be present at this time," Jati added.

The 2022 GPDRR is a global event and has been organized by the United Nations and Indonesia, he said adding, representatives of more than 185 countries have registered for the event.

Meanwhile, officials from Indonesia who will accompany President Widodo to the event will include Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security, Minister of Home Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Law and Human Rights, Minister of Social Affairs, Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, chief of the National Police, head of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, and head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency.

Indonesia will follow the theme of "Strengthening Partnerships Towards Sustainable Resilience" at the 2022 GPDRR, Jati said.

“And, we also hope that this event will encourage more cooperation in disaster risk reduction and global commitment on sustainable resilience, in accordance with the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015–2030,” he added.
