Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, has offered the green industrial area in North Kalimantan during his negotiations with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The largest green industrial area in the world will be able to help Musk realize his wish of producing eco-friendly or green products, he stated.

"This one of the parts of my negotiation with Tesla. It is not easy to negotiate with Tesla," he remarked during the 2022 Naval College of Technology (STTAL) National Seminar, which was broadcast online on Wednesday.

"I said, 'Elon, if you want to get end-to-end green product batteries and green product cars, then this is the place,'" he said.

The green industrial area in North Kalimantan is expected to transform Indonesia. Spread over 30 thousand hectares, the area is touted to be the largest integrated industrial area in the world, he informed.

The area also has the potential to generate 10 thousand MW of electricity from hydropower, 10 thousand MW of electricity from solar panels, and 2.9 TCF (trillion cubic feet) of gas, he added.

"This is one of the things that will change, or transform Indonesia," he remarked.

The development of the industrial area in North Kalimantan began in December 2021.

According to Pandjaitan, he started the project five or six years ago.

Tesla's team has already visited Indonesia. The team was invited to the nickel industry center in Morowali, Central Sulawesi, and they were impressed with the development of nickel downstreaming in Indonesia.

Earlier, during an event on May 18, 2022, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia had said that Tesla is interested in investing in Indonesia's car battery and electric car ecosystem.
