Bandung (ANTARA) - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil expressed gratitude for the thoughts and prayers offered by the residents to him and his family after his eldest son Emmeril Kahn Mumtadz disappeared in Switzerland, a family representative stated.

Mumtadz, nicknamed Eril, went missing while swimming in Aare River, Switzerland, on May 26.

"We wish to express our gratitude to West Java's residents, who offer us their moral support. Your support helps strengthen our family's hearts," Kamil's younger brother, Elpi Nazmuzamam, said on behalf of the family during a press conference here on Saturday.

Kamil and his family are currently in Switzerland while awaiting the completion of the search and rescue operation for his son, he noted, adding that their condition is fine.

"He is now healthy and is greatly patient while facing this tragedy," he remarked.

The family representative affirmed that the Indonesian Embassy in Switzerland has also offered its utmost support to Kamil and his family.

"We are greatly helped by the ambassador and his officials because earlier, other members of the family in Switzerland were separated from Kamil," he noted.

His family is also keen to express gratitude to the local authority in Bern for the support in the rescue operation for Mumtadz, Nazmuzamam remarked.

He then conveyed Kamil's apology for not informing about his latest condition and the rescue operation's progress on his own.

"He also expressed his apology (because) he could not yet greet all of you here. We also appeal to you to offer your prayers," the family representative remarked.

Earlier, in the afternoon of May 26, 2022, Eril, along with her sister and friends, started swimming in the Aare River, Bern. It was sunny when Eril attempted to reach the river banks, but he was dragged by a fairly swift current of the river despite being assisted by his friends.

Kamil, who was in England with provincial delegates, immediately headed to Switzerland after receiving the news of the incident.
