S Sumatra (ANTARA) - The Palembang city government has prepared an integrated team to conduct stringent surveillance of food sold in local markets for potentially hazardous substances.

The team comprises officers from the Health Office, Agriculture and Food Resilience Office, Industry Office, and Drug and Food Control Agency (BPOM) Office, Palembang Vice Mayor Fitrianti Agustinda disclosed in Palembang on Thursday,

"Those who have received special assignment can move together to the field to perform their duties," she said following an inter-sectoral advocacy meeting to discuss three national food supervision programs in Palembang.

The team is required to make a weekly report on their findings at traditional and modern markets in the capital of South Sumatra province, she informed.

The weekly report will be discussed at a monthly meeting to decide on further steps, she added.

She said the move is part of the Palembang city government's commitment to implementing three national programs optimally: the movement to create markets free from hazardous substances (PABB), safe food village (DPA), and School Student Food (PJAS).
