There will be regulations related to the management of personal data, how to manage personal data, and the sanctions and obligations that are specifically regulated by the RUU PDPJakarta (ANTARA) - Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate has expressed the hope that deliberations on the personal data protection bill (RUU PDP) would be completed soon.
"Regarding the personal data (bill), it is currently being processed in the DPR with Commission I, in which the discussion is carried out intensively. I hope it can be completed soon," he said here on Tuesday.
Plate further said he hopes that the bill would be ratified as soon as possible in order to make personal data management easier.
"There will be regulations related to the management of personal data, how to manage personal data, and the sanctions and obligations that are specifically regulated by the RUU PDP," he added.
The minister further said that the issue of data protection is also being discussed by the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG).

According to Plate, the discussion is a manifestation of the government's acknowledgment of the importance of data management, domestically and internationally.
"There are several principles of cross-border data flow that we have introduced to be discussed together among the delegates. For example, lawfulness, fairness, transparency, and to a certain extent, there is an element of reciprocity," he explained.
The need for a law on personal data protection is becoming more urgent because one of the main issues at the G20 DEWG is cross-border data flow and data free flow with trust (DFFT).

The personal data protection law is also expected to strengthen regulations regarding data, which are still spread across various sectors.
The DEWG is a part of the Indonesian G20 Sherpa Track. The working group originated with the formation of the G20 Digital Economy Task Force (DETF) in 2017 during the German G20 presidency.
As the ministry in charge of the Digital Economy Working Group under Indonesia's G20 presidency, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is pushing three priority issues, namely post COVID-19 recovery and connectivity, digital skills and literacy, and cross-border data flow and data free flow with trust.
