Jakarta (ANTARA) - Equal distribution of healthcare workers in all Indonesian regions is part of the crucial efforts to support transformation of health human resources (HR), according to Director of Health Personnel Planning at the Health Ministry Sugiyanto.

"One of the important pillars in the health system transformation is human resources. We hope these human resources would be able to support other transformations," Sugiyanto stated during the contract-based government employee (PPPK) Recruitment Health Talk here on Friday.

The health workers' transformation in referral services, primary services, or health resilience is increasingly crucial in the role of HR in the health sector, he added.

Sugiyanto drew attention to a quality gap in healthcare facilities in remote and underdeveloped areas while emphasizing the need to improve the quality and competence of health workers in accordance with the needs of health services in several regions.

The transformation is expected to support nationwide equitable distribution of all health workers that are expected to become the facilitators in providing health services to the community.

"Without the availability of adequate and evenly distributed health workers, in terms of type, number, and competence, health facilities will not be able to provide optimal health services," he pointed out.

Through equal distribution, various health problems, such as the lack of doctors at the Community Health Center (Puskesmas), could be addressed. Until now, over 10 thousand or around six percent of Puskesmas in Indonesia do not have a doctor, he stated.

In addition to Puskesmas, 42 percent of the Regional General Hospitals (RSUD) at the district and city level do not have sufficient specialist doctors. The supply and demand for health workers is also not balanced, Sugiyanto remarked.

He also admitted that in order to improve the service quality, his side had run several programs for health workers.

These programs include the addition of subjects related to nine priority diseases for specialist doctors, the provision of scholarships for health workers to improve continuing education competencies, health utilization of Indonesian Citizens (WNI) graduates from abroad, and recruitment of civil servants and PPPK.

"The Ministry of Health will continue to encourage the fulfillment and equal distribution of specialist doctors and other health workers, as needed, by providing comprehensive utilization and quality improvement for other health specialists," he concluded.
