Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) will prepare family data to support the program for eradicating extreme poverty, in line with President Joko Widodo's directives.

"The National Population and Family Planning Agency is ready to support the program to push for the eradication of extreme poverty in accordance with Presidential Instruction No. 4 of 2022 regarding the Acceleration of the Elimination of Extreme Poverty," head of the agency, Hasto Wardoyo, said here on Tuesday.

He made the statement after the issuance of the Presidential Instruction at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture.

In accordance with the instruction, the agency is required to prepare family data that will be used to determine policies to address extreme poverty issues, including stunting.

Moreover, it is also mandated with preparing and providing services for family development programs, population and family planning, as well as stunting reduction efforts for extremely poor families.

The Presidential instruction, stipulated on June 8, 2022, instructs 22 ministries, six institutions, and regional governments to conduct the required measures according to their respective duties, functions, and authorities, he said.

The agency will improve collaboration between ministries and agencies in order to ensure that the program runs successfully, Wardoyo added.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, said the government is aiming to eliminate extreme poverty from four percent, or 10.86 million people, to zero percent in 2024.

"The target of extreme poverty elimination is zero percent or no more extreme poverty by 2024," he pointed out.

Currently, extreme poverty is an issue, which must be addressed in order to improve Indonesia.

According to Statistics Indonesia, the extreme poverty rate in 2021 was recorded at four percent or 10.86 million people. Meanwhile, the poverty rate was pegged at 26.5 million people, or 9.71 percent.
