What the G20 forum will achieve has received support to overcome land degradation and promote conservation, sustainable management, and resJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia stressed its commitment to achieving sustainable development, including by addressing the issue of land degradation and encouraging conservation during its G20 presidency, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya stated.
"During its G20 presidency in 2022, Indonesia has affirmed its commitment to achieving sustainable development. What the G20 forum will achieve has received support to overcome land degradation and promote conservation, sustainable management, and restoration of forests, peatlands, and mangroves, which is relevant to the agenda of global climate," the minister noted during the T20 discussion accessed in Jakarta on Wednesday.
At the discussion focusing on achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), Nurbaya drew attention to the fact that Indonesia had taken steps to achieve the 13th goal of SDGs regarding climate change mitigation through the enactment of Law No. 16 of 2016 on the ratification of the Paris Agreement.

During the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow, the United Kingdom, last year, Indonesia also highlighted various concrete steps it had taken and will apply through the revised documents of the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and Long Term Strategy on Low Carbon and Climate Resilience 2050 (LTS-LCCR 2050).
Indonesia has also conceived a roadmap for mitigation and adaptation. In fact, the Environment and Forestry Ministry has also issued Decree No. 168 of 2022 on Indonesia's Forestry and Other Land Use (FoLU) Net Sink 2020 for climate change control.
Hence, Indonesia has targeted to turn the FoLU sector into a net carbon sink by 2030 to support the target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the country, she affirmed.
