Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Second G20 Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG) meeting will focus on three issues -- energy security, energy transition, and cooperation -- as a response to the global energy dynamics.

"We wish to convey to the world how the three issues respond to the current global challenges," ETWG Chair Yudo Dwinanda Priaadi noted here on Wednesday.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

ETWG is one of the working groups in G20 that focuses on energy security, access, and efficiency, and the transition to lower carbon energy systems.

Handling these three issues is crucial to uphold ETWG's three pillars within the G20 forum during Indonesia's presidency to reach a global agreement on accelerating energy transition.

Earlier, during the first meeting of the ETWG held on March 24-25, 2022, in Yogyakarta, G20 delegations unanimously agreed on the three main pillars that Indonesia had raised.

The three pillars comprise energy accessibility, bolstering clean energy technology, and increasing energy financing.

Global dynamics, especially the ongoing energy security issue, majorly affects the acceleration of energy transition.

As a result, it is the topic of discussion during the second meeting scheduled in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, on June 23-24, 2022.

Priaadi highlighted that several countries are struggling to secure energy supply and control the surge in gas, oil, and electricity prices.

"The spike in the primary energy price became one of the impacts of the post-pandemic recovery that should be responded to with the effort to bolster sustainable energy security. This must be anticipated by Indonesia immediately," he remarked.

Moreover, the current geopolitical conflict and pandemic provides a valuable momentum for the world to further expedite the energy transition process, he affirmed.

In line with the efforts to realize the global commitment to handle climate changes, the ETWG meeting will encourage the acceleration of renewable energy utilization as an energy source foundation in the future.

"We strive to prioritize fair transition that maximizes positive impacts while also reducing the potential risks that arise from the transition to the economy and the people," he stated.

Partnership or cooperation support will be an important strength in supporting energy transition.

Through international cooperation, the second ETWG meeting will seek a way out in bolstering technology and accurate funding scheme to expedite energy transition.
