Jakarta (ANTARA) - German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited Deutsche Schule Jakarta on the sidelines of his visit to Indonesia to celebrate seven decades of diplomatic relations between both nations.

"The German schools abroad are important players in foreign cultural and educational policy, building bridges between Germany and the partner countries. In doing so, they are making a significant contribution to mutual understanding and sustainable networking, especially among (members of) younger generations," the president noted during the visit in Tangerang, Banten Province, on Thursday.

Head of Deutsche Schule Jakarta Peter Hoffmann admitted to feeling highly honored to receive the president visit.

"Of course, it is a great honor that the president is visiting us, and I think it really shows how important this school is," he stated.

President Steinmeier appeared enthusiastic at the welcome extended by hundreds of Deutsche Schule Jakarta's students, who presented dance performances from various regions in Indonesia.

During his visit to the school, President Steinmeier also toured several facilities there and held discussions with teachers and students.

Hoffmann stated that President Steinmeier was highly concerned about education. Hence, he was willing to come to the school. During the visit, President Steinmeier also admitted to feeling proud of the students and advised them to always be enthusiastic about going to school.
