Mataram, W Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - A boat carrying 30 Indonesian illegal migrant workers capsized in the waters off Putri Island in Batam, Riau Islands, on Thursday (June 16), on its way to Malaysia.

Some 23 passengers were rescued in the incident, while seven migrant workers went missing.

An official of West Nusa Tenggara's (NTB's) Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI) Abri Danar Prabawa stated here on Friday that most of the migrant workers are the residents of NTB.

"We received information from Riau Islands' BP2MI," he noted.

All rescued workers were evacuated to the Batam Naval Base.

"The SAR team is conducting search operation at the location to find the missing passengers," Prabawa revealed.

The authorities would return all the victims to their home villages and conduct further investigation into the case.
