In a written statement on Thursday, the ministry's Disease Prevention and Handling Director General Maxi Rein Rondonuwu noted that the health sector currently encounters increasingly complicated challenges owing to the emergence of various infection diseases.
The surfacing of diseases, such as mysterious acute hepatitis and monkeypox, has driven the government’s decision to bolster readiness, detection, and response at the country’s entry points, he remarked.
This aims to prevent transmission or infection between regions or even between countries.
The training was held in the Indonesian Army’s Regional Military Main Regiment (Rindam) Jaya, here, for 14 days, on June 13-27, 2022, with participants comprising 30 representatives from the Harbor Health Office (KKP) Class, I, II, III, and IV across Indonesia.
“The current training has to be conducted to bolster monitoring and strengthen the detection, prevention, and response functions at the country’s entry pints,” Rondonuwu explained.
The three functions are carried out by the KKP as the institution with the authority to prevent the entry and exit of diseases that can potentially trigger a plague.
To this end, KKP’s preparedness and alertness should be strengthened with the existence of health human resources, who are technically skilled and professional in conducting health quarantine.
“Strengthening human resources through this health quarantine training became a must to present a professional health quarantine,” he noted.
He urged all training participants to utilize this learning opportunity as much as possible because the knowledge and skills from the program can serve as a foundation to improve the Health Ministry’s performance.

Given that the world is still plagued by the COVID-19 pandemic, Rondonuwu also urged the participants to collectively maintain their personal and environmental health.
Moreover, they should continue to stringently implement health protocols, such as wearing a mask, maintaining distance, and routinely washing hands with soap.
