Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) has said that the Army is one of the main forces assisting it in implementing the national counter-terrorism strategy.

"The Army is one of the main forces that is helping us in working on a national strategy to counter terrorism," head of BNPT, General Commissioner Boy Rafli Amar, said during the 2022 army unit roll call at the military academy in Magelang, Central Java, on Thursday.

The army can make pre-emptive efforts by initiating collaboration between forces at the regional level and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum to create a safe situation and instill tolerance in regions, he added.

"In addition, the National Defense Force can also be involved in preventive actions, law enforcement, and cooperation," he said.

National Defense Force Commander, General Andika Perkasa, has reiterated the importance of the collaboration between the National Counter-Terrorism Agency and the National Defense Force for combating terrorism, he added. Both of them must improve their contribution, especially in terms of intelligence, he said.

"I have talked with the commander several times. Mr. Commander said that we (National Counter-Terrorism Agency and the Army) should work together to improve intelligence activities for addressing the threat of terrorism," he informed.

At least 747 participants took part and were briefed during Thursday’s roll call. They also had a chance to speak with state figures. The debriefing focused on optimizing the performance and readiness of the unit in fulfilling its duty.

"The unit commander, in fulfilling duties and responsibilities, is expected to have commitment, intention, sincerity, and courage in leading their unit," he said.
