Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia recorded an additional 2,069 COVID-19 cases on Friday, taking the total count to 6,076,894, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force said.

According to data received from the task force here on Friday, the regions that recorded the most cases were Jakarta, with 1,266 cases, followed by West Java, with 331 cases; Banten, with 242 cases; East Java, with 83 cases; Bali, with 59 cases, and Central Java, with 24 new cases.

Meanwhile, the task force’s data showed that 998 patients recovered from the virus on Friday, taking the total number of recoveries to 5,906,969.

The provinces that recorded the highest recoveries were Jakarta, with 669 recoveries, followed by West Java (119), East Java (89), Banten (56), Bali (23), and Central Java (10).

The country also recorded five new COVID-19 deaths: two in Jakarta, one in Central Java, one in Yogyakarta, and one in South Sulawesi. Thus, the overall death toll reached 156,711.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases rose by 1,066 compared to the previous day to reach 13,214.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health reported that Indonesia has so far detected 143 cases of the BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants of Omicron in the country.

The ministry's spokesperson, Mohammad Syahril, informed at a virtual press conference on Friday that of the 143 cases, 21 cases have been caused by the BA.4 subvariant and 122 cases by the BA.5 subvariant.

The regions that have recorded cases of the subvariants are Jakarta (98 cases), West Java (29 cases), Banten (13 cases), and Bali (3 cases).

Of the patients infected with the Omicron subvariants, 34 have received the booster shot, nine have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, three have received only the first dose, and one has received four doses of the coronavirus vaccine.

"The five others are children who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine, while for the rest of the 90 patients, there has not been any data update," Syahril said.
