Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chief of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) Moeldoko urged people to not be in a hurry to remove their masks, as COVID-19 cases are currently on the rise yet again.

This is apparent from one of the indicators showing that the positivity rate in Jakarta had reached 13.7 percent.

"If the people still neglect to implement health protocols and receive booster vaccine, then the number of cases may continue to rise," he remarked through a written statement on Tuesday.

The positivity rate is the proportion of tested samples returning positive for COVID-19 out of the total number of people being tested.

The World Health Organization (WHO) established a figure below five percent as the benchmark for how successful a country is in controlling COVID-19.

The fact that the positivity rate in Jakarta reached 13.7 percent as of June 27, 2022, shows a strong indication that the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over, he noted.

However, while Jakarta's positivity rate exceeds the standard set by the WHO, activity restriction is not yet necessary, as hospitals are not yet overcrowded.

To this end, he urged the people to remain disciplined in implementing health protocols and receiving booster vaccines to prevent the surge in COVID-19 cases and the positivity rate.

Moreover, according to data from the Health Ministry as of June 27, 2022, Indonesia's positivity rate is still below WHO's standard with 2.7 percent, Moeldoko stated.

Meanwhile, an increase of 1,445 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Indonesia, with Jakarta being the province that reported the most number of cases reaching 838.

From this figure, 791 are related to local transmission, while the rest of the 47 came from international travelers.

"The rise in the COVID-19 positivity rate and cases is caused by the new variants that enter Indonesia, specifically Omicron BA.4 and BA.5," he stated.
