Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Digitalization of the payment system is a game changer in achieving an inclusive and sustainable economy, Bank of Indonesia (BI) Deputy Governor Aida S. Budiman stated during a seminar in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, on Wednesday. .

The digital payment system makes it easier for everyone regardless of status, age, and gender in accessing financial services.

"Digitalization is for everyone. Technology makes it possible for many activities (in economic and financial sectors) to become more inclusive and sustainable. The benefits of digitalization is for everyone, general public, including addressing disparity," she said.

To this end, Budiman has encouraged industry groups, including banks, financial technology, and other business players, to intensify coordination in an effort to pursue digitalization of financial economy services in Indonesia.

BI has collaborated with the industry to develop a digital-based payment system, such as QRIS, BI-Fast, and SNAP. The trio were the result of the 2025 Payment System Blue Print.

As many as 20.6 million users have registered to use the QR Indonesian Standard (QRIS).

"An additional 15 million users are targeted by the end of 2022," she stated during a seminar that was a side event of the third meeting for G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors and Finance and Central Bank Deputies Meeting in Nusa Dua.

She remarked that 19.2 million business players used QRIS, of which 90 percent were micro, small, and medium businesses.

"We expect that all MSME players, totaling 65 million businesses, can use QRIS," she remarked.

BI remains committed to supporting and endeavoring to pursue finance digitalization through the three measures of regulation reformation, development of integrated payment infrastructure, and developing safe, efficient, and just market practices, she noted.

Digitalization in the financial sector was one of highlights in the third meeting of Finance and Central Bank Deputies on July 13-14 as well as the third meeting of G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors on July 15-16, 2022, in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali.

The head of center for climate change and multilateral funding policy at the Finance Ministry, Dian Lestari, stated that one of the priority agendas in the financial sector pertained to efforts for digitalization of the financial sector. She delivered the statement in Badung, Bali, on Tuesday, July 12.

"This digital transformation is necessary for the post-pandemic economy. This becomes the model of transaction that fills public economic activities. During the pandemic, (digital-based services) became the engine that pushes the economy forward," Lestari stated.
