Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The Indonesian government has appointed state-owned enterprise PT Sarana Multi Infrastructure (SMI) as a country platform manager that will provide fiscal support for the energy transition as well as the financing framework.

This has been laid down in the Finance Minister’s Decision No. 275 of 2022, special staff to the Finance Minister, Masyita Crystallin, said during the 2022 Indonesian G20 sidelines activity media briefing here on Wednesday.

G20 is an international forum comprising 19 countries and the European Union that work together to handle major issues. Indonesia is holding the presidency of the grouping this year.

In addition, a soft unveiling for the agenda will be held on Friday (July 15, 2022), she informed.

Country platform is a mechanism for carrying out the energy transition, and as a manager, PT SMI will regulate the funding for the energy transition, she explained.

There are at least two types of energy transition: developing renewable energy and closing down or reducing the coal production period.

While there is already a mixed financing scheme called SDGs Indonesia One for developing renewable energy, other types of funding are still needed to close down or reduce the coal production period, she said.

“So, the function of the country platform manager is to cooperate to create financial instruments, including risk, various types of development loans, technical assistance, and equity financing in the form of ownership,” she elaborated.

This ownership can make a project that initially is not proceeding well financially to become more successful, Crystallin added.

The unveiling of the country platform manager is expected to help Indonesia reach its zero carbon emissions target by 2060 or earlier.

It is also expected to help slash emissions by 29 percent through its own efforts and 41 percent with international support by 2030.
