"There are two main considerations in this redesign; the first is the quality of telecommunications services remains good. Secondly, the interests of cultural heritage and tourism industry in Borobudur as one of Indonesia's five super priority tourism destinations (remain protected),” he informed here on Thursday.
According to the minister, the redesign of Borobudur Temple is a top priority based on President Joko Widodo's directive.
In addition to refurbishing the temple site, the re-arrangement is also aimed at developing the local economy, Plate pointed out.
Under the project, not only is the temple's infrastructure being arranged, but a better management flow is also being prepared to optimize services, he informed.
He also emphasized that the telecommunications and informatics sector is part of a policy package for the new face of Borobudur.
Minister Plate expressed the hope that visitors would not only be impressed by Borobudur Temple but also by the artistic arrangement of the telecommunications infrastructure.
"The tower model can be part of the package that is the new face of Borobudur, especially with the advancement of current technologies," he said.
To realize this, Plate asked telecommunications operators to redesign their towers so that their maximum height reaches up to 283 meters above sea level, or the same height as the Arupadhatu, or the eighth to the tenth terrace of the temple.
"We will do this to ensure that the digitization of the Borobudur tourist area maintains the ecosystem quality and its sustainability; this should all be built in harmony," he explained.
