"Later, the local residents will become an inseparable part of the IKN’s development. We want to see them contribute to the city’s development," head of the IKN Authority, Bambang Susantono, said while delivering a press statement at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
The training would include construction training, financial management training, and sewing as well as baking classes, he informed.
"For construction training, we will cooperate with construction experts, and later, they (trainees) will get a construction certification so they can be recruited to help develop the IKN," Susantono added.
The IKN Authority is also collaborating with non-governmental organizations (NGOs), state-owned enterprises (SOEs), private corporations, and academics for reskilling (providing new skills) and upskilling (providing training to improve skills) local communities.
"We will not only build physical buildings, but also build the city’s ecosystem," he added.

Meanwhile, in August 2022, infrastructure work and the construction of core buildings at IKN will begin, including land preparation. The work will also include the construction of logistics access.
"In the next year, we will start full-scale development to build the infrastructure for main buildings," he disclosed.
The government is constructing the IKN in three stages. In the first stage (2022–2024), the core infrastructure, including the Presidential Palace, the Vice President's Palace, the Senate complex, government offices, the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) headquarters, as well as housing, will be built.
Currently, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) is conducting land development to start the construction of areas and buildings in IKN.
The second phase of IKN development will be carried out in 2025–2035 and the third phase in 2035–2045.
In terms of budget, the government needs a total budget of Rp466 trillion to develop Nusantara. The government plans to source 19–20 percent of the budget from the State Budget and the rest through investments and partnerships with the private sector.
