Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia added 5,653 COVID-19 cases in the 24 hours ended Wednesday, with Jakarta contributing as many as 2,950 cases, according to data provided by the COVID-19 Task Force.

The nation also logged 2,331 single-day recoveries and 10 deaths, the data showed.

Since March 2020, the country’s total COVID-19 tally has reached 6,149,084, with 5,957,908 patients recovering from the virus and 56,875 patients succumbing to it.

On Wednesday, Indonesia confirmed 34,301 active cases, an increase of 3,312 compared to the previous day. In addition, the number of suspected cases reached 6,536.

The new cases were detected after the authorities tested 118,906 specimens obtained from 87,431 people in laboratories across Indonesia.

The national positivity rate for the daily specimen category was 7.95 percent and the daily person category was 6.47 percent.

Jakarta contributed the highest number of cases on Wednesday, followed by West Java (1,076), Banten (699), East Java (328), and Bali (159).

To prevent the importation of COVID-19 cases, the Ministry of Health has made health screening mandatory at all debarkation points prepared for Indonesian pilgrims returning from Saudi Arabia.
