Ambon, Maluku (ANTARA) - A delegation from Ambon city, Maluku Province, presented the "Sound of Green" program at the UNESCO Creative Cities Network XIV Annual Conference held in Santos, Brazil, July 18–22, 2022.

Besides the “Sound of Green” program, the delegation made a presentation on music tourism and music curriculum for schools at the conference, director of the Ambon Music Office (AMO), Ronny Loppies, informed on Thursday.

"The presentation aligned with the theme raised, where we explained the role of music in a small island ecosystem that has an influence on the culture, life, and existence of Ambon city," he explained.

The 14th Annual Conference of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network was themed “Creativity, the path to equality.”

"Why (we) talk about equality: because it is in line with the 2030 SDGs (sustainable development goals) within the context of UNESCO; how to reduce inequality (and move) towards equality; that creative cities in this world still have a lot of inequality," he pointed out.

Seven inequality issues were presented at the conference, covering the politics, society, economy, environment, culture, spatial, and education spheres, he said.

“The AMO with the ‘Sound of Green’ program, music tourism, and (music) educational curriculum, is prepared to address inequality in terms of culture and education," Loppies added.

Meanwhile, the conference, he said, offered an opportunity to strengthen relationships among global creative cities and served as a platform to reflect on their strategic objectives that align with UNESCO's priorities, within the global post-COVID-19 recovery context.

In addition, Secretary of the Ambon city administration Agus Ririmasse said that attending the annual UNESCO event was an extraordinary opportunity.

"(Not only) this raises the dignity of Ambon city as a music city, but also raises the dignity of Indonesia," he remarked.

Hence, he said he expected that the activity would have a positive effect on the development of Ambon as one of the world’s music cities.

"Hopefully, in the future, Ambon can host the annual UNESCO Creative Cities Network conference," he said.
