Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Netherlands has strengthened bilateral cooperation with Indonesia in the fields of education, research, and science, Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science Robbert Dijkgraaf has said.

“Indonesia has long been a leading strategic partner for the Netherlands in cooperation in the fields of education, research, and science. Clear policies (have emerged) from the government of President Joko Widodo to expand research, improve education, and develop critical knowledge in Indonesia," Dijkgraaf noted in a statement issued here on Friday.

The Dutch Minister is on a visit to Indonesia from July 20 to July 23, 2022, to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of education, research, and science.

The visit is intended to open up new opportunities for cooperation at the government level and among knowledge institutions.

He said that wider, deeper, and mutually beneficial strategic cooperation as equal partners is possible.

"At this moment that coincides with the G20, the Netherlands emphasizes its efforts to engage with Indonesia as the G20 President and fulfill its promise to strengthen its commitment to bilateral and global development after the COVID-19 pandemic," he explained.

He then emphasized that education and research are the foundation for everyone's future.

“So, we made it more affordable for people to learn, and we invested a lot in science. Also, we are working on a future where everyone is free to develop their full potential and become who they want to be," he said.

The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) will seek to further biodiversity research on a molecular level by utilizing an advanced microscopy technique called cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), BRIN's head, Laksana Tri Handoko, said earlier.

Advancing biodiversity research on a molecular level is quite important for humanity's future, he remarked at a press conference at BRIN's office here on Thursday.

Indonesia can learn many things from the Netherlands on the subject since the Netherlands has many experts in that field.

Indonesia will immediately utilize cryo-EM to spur biodiversity research. To improve researchers' capacity for utilizing cryo-EM, BRIN will involve several experts from the Netherlands, he informed.

"We will have a new instrument that came from a Dutch company, namely cryo-EM, to conduct a much more advanced biodiversity research on the molecular level," Handoko said.
