These four strategies comprise biosecurity, medication, vaccination, and conditional slaughter at the village level
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Head of the Food-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Handling Task Force Lieutenant General Suharyanto encouraged the village-based handling of plague in livestock, the Task Force's Data, IT, and Public Communication Head Abdul Muhari stated.

"Akin to COVID-19 handling, he urged to also maximize the handling of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) at the village level," he noted through a statement on Thursday.

During the FMD Handling Coordination Meeting held in a hybrid format at Central Java Governor's Office on Wednesday, Suharyanto expected that FMD handling at the village level, such as in Central Java, can be revived.

Suharyanto outlined four main strategies in village-based FMD handling.

"These four strategies comprise biosecurity, medication, vaccination, and conditional slaughter at the village level," Muhari stated.

FMD handling involves all related parties, starting from village officials, animal health workers in villages, independent animal health workers, as well as military officials, he remarked.

As for financing, FMD handling at the village level in Central Java can utilize independent fund or village fund, such as livestock fund.

In addition, local governments utilize the Unexpected Spending (BTT) fund and can receive budget from the National Alms Agency (BAZNAS) in handling FMD, Muhari stated.

It was recorded as per Tuesday that a total of 54,086 livestock in Central Java were suspected to be sick or have contracted FMD. Some 309 heads of livestock were FMD positive, 26,714 recovered, 947 were slaughtered, and 494 died.

Currently, FMD cases infect a total of 25,931 heads of livestock.

Muhari noted that Suharyanto, while delivering his material, also highlighted several FMD-handling efforts in Central Java.

Strategies applied to support the efforts entail involving various communities in FMD handling and inviting universities in Central Java to participate.
