Countries must be committed to working together in restoring the world of education globally
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's G20 Presidency spokesperson Maudy Ayunda underscored that the G20 Education Working Group (EdWG) aimed at preparing educated youngsters to enter the world of work, especially after going through the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The topic of the future of the world of work after COVID-19 has become important in the world of education. I hope that through the G20 Presidency, we can formulate an education system that is able to create human resources (HR), who are ready to work. Hence, the Indonesian younger generation needs to support the EdWG agenda," she noted in a press statement, Friday.

The EdWG is one of the working groups of the G20 that examines the factors facilitating or hindering the right to education and the achievement of higher education.

Indonesia, represented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek), led the working group and held three meetings.

At the latest meeting, Indonesia discussed recovery in the education sector after the pandemic and also studied the draft of the Declaration of the Minister of Education that was also conveyed at the second EdWG meeting, Ayunda remarked.

The Declaration of the Minister of Education is prepared to be later brought to the Education Ministers' Meeting scheduled to be held in September 2022.

Ayunda stated that education is a complex sector for every country. Hence, Indonesia encourages the importance of mutual cooperation between countries in a bid to restore the world of education, especially in the post-pandemic situation.

During the pandemic, the education sector must adjust to several challenges, such as online learning, the use of technology and limited learning media, mental health problems for both students and teachers, and learning loss, she pointed out.

"Mutual cooperation is an important value to handle this situation. We cannot solve this problem alone. Countries must be committed to working together in restoring the world of education globally," Ayunda emphasized.

The G20 EdWG this year focuses on four priority issues of education: Qualified Education for All, Digital Technology in Education, Solidarity and Partnership, and the Future of the World of Work Post COVID-19.

In addition to discussing education priority issues at the third EdWG meeting, the Ministry of Education and Culture conveyed the result of discussions conducted at the United Nations (UN) Transforming Education Summit (TES) Pre-Conference that was organized last June in Paris, France.

TES is a forum for mobilizing greater political enthusiasm and commitment to reverse the decline of the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), specifically reorganizing education and accelerating educational progress and the 2030 SDGs.

Indonesia's participation in TES is an important step to voice initiatives and commitments in the world of education in larger forums.
