Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - State airport operator PT Angkasa Pura I at the Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) in Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, held an art exhibition to enable the airport to serve as a venue showcasing art and cultural products.

General Manager of YIA Agus Pandu Purnama stated in Kulon Progo on Tuesday that at the 2022 YIA Second Hand Art Exhibition, held in the Malioboro Monument area of YIA, 80 percent of the artworks were produced from used or second-hand goods.

"With Yogyakarta's best artists, the utilization of used goods became a (showcase of) high-value work of art. This event also served as a platform for disseminating education and praising the fine arts and comprehending ways to improve creativity by managing unused items," Purnama explained.

He said this activity aligned with YIA's goal of being one of the airports that displayed arts and culture.

"We routinely strive to present an ambiance and a rich impression of local creativity at the airport. This is our commitment since YIA was built and operationalized. Moreover, the Malioboro Monument area is a public area that can be accessed by both passengers and non-passengers," he remarked.

The 2022 YIA Second Hand Art Exhibition was held at the Malioboro Monument area through collaboration among the airport management, Java Connections Art Management, and the Second Hand Yogyakarta Artist Community.

The exhibition, being held from August 1 to October 2, 2022, showcases photos, painting, and sculpture art by Agung Sukindra, Irwandi, Nasirun, Budi Ubrux, Ngesti Limna, Ve Dhanito, Ridi Winarno, Wiediantoro, Kun Tanubrata, and Sjaiful Boen.

The artworks are combined with artistically-designed second-hand items that are used for the picture frames.

The second-hand items comprised beds, iron sheets, doors, dolls, bicycles, cans, tables, and chairs, among several others.
