Jakarta (ANTARA) - A total of 863,719 farm animals across Indonesia have received the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine as of Wednesday , the FMD Handling Task Force has informed.



The 863,719 farm animals comprise 824,508 heads of cows, 10,447 buffaloes, 7,897 sheep, 13,816 goats, and 7,051 pigs.



As per the task force's data, 463,097 farm animals have contracted FMD in 279 districts and cities in 23 provinces across Indonesia so far. They comprise 442,252 heads of cows, 15,643 buffaloes, 1,649 sheep, 3,489 goats, and 64 pigs.

Meanwhile, the number of animals that have recovered from the disease has reached 278,921, while 171,624 animals have not yet recovered from it.



The number of animals that have succumbed to the disease has reached 4,811, comprising 4,670 heads of cows, 100 buffaloes, 18 sheep, and 23 goats.



In total, 7,741 animals have been conditionally slaughtered due to FMD.

Earlier, coordinator of the FMD Handling Expert Team, Wiku Adisasmito, asked people to exercise caution when they come in close contact with FMD-infected cattle.



The government has continued its efforts to curb FMD transmission through biosecurity, testing, vaccination, treatment, and conditional slaughter, and is expecting the public to remain alert and concerned about the FMD outbreak and jointly prevent the spread of the disease.
