Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) chairperson Bambang Soesatyo has urged the government to intensively disseminate information on the indigenous vaccine, which, as per the Ministry of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), will be ready within two weeks.

The government must explain that the vaccine created by state-run vaccine producer PT Bio Farma had passed the clinical test stage, in accordance with the requirement.

"As a result, it is safe to be used by the people," Soesatyo said in an official statement released on Thursday.

The domestic vaccine could help reduce Indonesia's dependency on COVID-19 vaccine imports. Hence, the government must remain committed to ensuring that the vaccine is completed within two weeks, he added.

Soesatyo also urged the government to consider providing the vaccine at zero cost or at a cheap and affordable rate to the people.

This is important given that the COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over despite the fact that the country is transitioning to the endemic stage, he said.

The government must lend its full support to domestic COVID-19 vaccine production to create quality vaccines as well as realize independent health and pharmaceutical industries.
