The scheme can also be developed for (the implementation of) a carbon offset orientation.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Environment and Forestry Ministry (KLHK) is continuing to accelerate green nursery development in several regions across Indonesia, including by collaborating with private actors, to support ecosystem recovery.
At the launch of the development of a nursery for South Kalimantan province here on Thursday, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar said that 11 nurseries have been inaugurated or are being constructed this year.
She also reported to President Joko Widodo that her ministry has prepared about 30 nursery locations in all provinces across Indonesia.
The 11 nurseries include Rumpin in West Java province, which has been inaugurated, Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Mentawir in East Kalimantan, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and Liang Anggang in South Kalimantan, she informed.
In addition, nurseries are being developed in Bali, South Sumatra, Southeast Sulawesi, and Central Sulawesi provinces.
On Thursday, the minister witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the construction of the Liang Anggang Nursery Center in Banjarbaru city, South Kalimantan province, under a collaboration between KLHK, the Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry, as well as a private company, PT Adaro Energy Indonesia.

The Environment and Forestry Ministry has prepared 10 hectares of land in the Liang Anggang Protected Forest Area for the nursery center, which is projected to have a production capacity of around 10 million seedlings per year.
The seeds produced by the nursery will belong to endemic plants such as Kalimantan mango, which is locally called ‘kasturi’ (Mangifera casturi) and meranti(Shorea sp.), aesthetic plants, as well as fruit trees to increase the production of non-timber forest products.
Bakar said that her ministry is cooperating with the PUPR Ministry to develop a watering system for the nursery, while collaboration is being carried out with private and state-owned companies for the construction of the nursery under a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme.
KLHK also collaborated with the PUPR Ministry and the private sector for building Rumpin Nursery.
"The scheme can also be developed for (the implementation of) a carbon offset orientation. KLHK is assisting in preparing it," the minister said.
It is part of Indonesia’s attempts to respond to various global issues regarding sustainability, biodiversity, and circular economy, she added.
