Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) wore a green Bangka Belitung traditional outfit adorned with the pattern of pucuk rebung, or bamboo shoots, to attend the Annual Session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), here, Tuesday.

Based on information shared by the Presidential Secretariat, the bamboo shoot motif symbolizes harmony, while the color green was chosen since in philosophy, it exudes a feeling of coolness and signifies hope and growth.

The president would reportedly also wear the outfit at the 2022 joint session of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD RI) held on the same day.

The president, accompanied by First Lady Iriana, arrived at the Parliament Complex at around 9 a.m. local time.

The First Lady wore a pink kebaya along with a matching hijab and brown bottoms made of batik cloth.

Vice President Ma'ruf Amin and his wife arrived early at around 8:48 a.m. local time. Amin was dressed in a Solo traditional outfit with blangkon trepes, or Javanese headgear, while Second Lady Wury wore a green kebaya.

The vice president chose a Javanese black suit sikepan as the top, watch chain decoration on the chest, and a presidential emblem. Amin wore pants of a Sidomukti-motif jarik cloth in brown color as well as golden slippers.

Meanwhile, the Second Lady wore a green Kartini kebaya, a matching hijab, paired with batik bottoms and a dark-colored shawl.

At the annual session, the president was also scheduled to deliver the state address and the introduction of the 2023 Draft State Budget (RAPBN) for the Fiscal Year 2023 along with a financial memorandum.

This activity is part of the celebration series for the 77th Anniversary of the Indonesian Independence on August 17, 2022.
