Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Directorate of Traffic of the Greater Jakarta Police Department will conduct the fourth in a series of street races on H. Benjamin Sueb Street, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on August 27 and 28, 2022.

“The Greater Jakarta Police Department will host the fourth series of 'street races' in Kemayoran," Director of Traffic at the Greater Jakarta Police Department General Commissioner Latif Usman informed here on Monday.

Kemayoran has been deemed suitable as the location for the race because the road infrastructure fits the requirements for racing and the area is spacious enough to accommodate both racers and spectators, he informed.

The street racing event has been organized to commemorate the 77th Independence Day of Indonesia, he added.

The event will also provide a platform to racing fans to express themselves and not get involved in illegal racing.

"The street race activity is to cater to all racing hobbyists. Currently, the phenomenon that (is often handled) by the Greater Jakarta Police Department is, of course, about illegal racing, so we accommodate (such a hobby so that they would) have a (means to indulge in racing)," he said.

Twenty clubs and racing communities have registered for the event this weekend, he added.

In addition, the Traffic Directorate of the Greater Jakarta Police Department will also conduct a big motorcycle exhibition, boxing ring, and bazaar, as well as set up booster vaccination booths.

The fourth street racing event is a continuation of three similar events hosted by the police in Ancol, North Jakarta, BSD, South Tangerang, and Meikarta, Cikarang Bekasi, all of which saw some success in terms of implementation.
