The term of office for regional heads is a maximum of one year and can be either extended or not, depending on the (result of) evaluation from the Home Affairs MinistryPangkalpinang, Bangka Belitung (ANTARA) - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian conducted evaluation of the performance of acting regional leaders across Indonesia to decipher the level of the officials' performance in developing their respective areas.
"The term of office for regional heads is a maximum of one year and can be either extended or not, depending on the (result of) evaluation from the Home Affairs Ministry," Karnavian stated during the virtual opening of the event to disseminate information on Acting Regional Heads' Assessment in Pangkalpinang on Thursday.
The minister remarked that this year, as many as 101 regional heads had ended their terms, and the rest would follow in 2023. For the time being, the leaders' positions were filled temporarily until the results of the simultaneous regional head elections on November 27, 2024, were announced.
"All acting regional heads, who have been sworn in, must comprehend their duties and authorities," Karnavian noted.

He remarked that all acting governors must submit an accountability report to the president through the minister at least once every three months.
The acting head of district and acting mayors were required to submit reports to the minister through the governor. These reports would be used as material for evaluation.
Among criteria that would be assessed were leadership in the implementation of government affairs under the regional authority, particularly health, education, infrastructure, and the implementation of public services aspects; the obligation to guide and supervise regional apparatus; adherence and employing Pancasila values; implementation of the 1945 Constitution of Indonesia; and maintaining and upkeeping the state's integrity.
The other points pertained to maintaining personal ethics and norms in governmental affairs that are the authority of the region as well as establishing relations with the regional leadership coordination forum and all agencies in the region.

Acting regional heads also carry out other authorities in accordance with the law that are listed as compliance with the central government, simplification of the organizational structure, budget allocation for the 2024 General Election, the establishment and effectiveness of the implementation of the food and regional inflation control task force, structuring honorary staff, and maintaining conducive, neutral vibes among the state civil apparatuses.
The minister also pointed to limitations in the authority of the acting leaders in the form of transferring employees, canceling permits issued by earlier officials, creating policies on regional expansion, and formulating policies on development and administration that conflicted with those made by earlier officials.
Acting Governor of Bangka Belitung, Ridwan Djamaluddin, said that his administration will immediately issue a performance report and hand it out to the president.
He said that they would immediately discuss to collect the material for the accountability report of his three-month leadership period.
