This activity is not only a policy, but Healthy Schools is a collective movement from various parties ranging from the government, schools, students, parents, to private and non-profit partners
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry is committed to raising smart and healthy students through the Healthy Schools campaign.

"This activity is not only a policy, but Healthy Schools is a collective movement from various parties ranging from the government, schools, students, parents, to private and non-profit partners," Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim said in a written statement on Thursday.

He appealed to all parties to participate in the Healthy School campaign and help make it a success so that Indonesian children can study well and keep good health.

Efforts to promote a healthy lifestyle in schools have not been optimal so far, Minister Makarim noted. One effort conducted through the School Health Unit (UKS) at educational institutions has yet to have a significant impact on improving the health of people, he added.

"Through this campaign, the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry is committed to realizing healthy, strong, and intelligent Indonesian children with healthy nutritional intake, physical health, and healthy immunization," he informed.

A first-grade teacher at Muara Kapuk 03 State Elementary School as well as school health unit administrator, Sarah Adelia, elaborated on the various efforts and programs that have been conducted by her unit.

"After our school won 3rd place in the 2019 national healthy school competition, we have continued to strive to implement the three tasks of the school health unit well," Adelia said.

The tasks comprise conducting health education at school, providing healthcare at school, and pursuing a healthy school environment.

She added that last July, 54 students were appointed as “little doctors” at the school. The school health unit is also periodically coordinating with public health centers and the regional Health Office for allowing “little doctors” to gain knowledge of health promotion at schools.
