Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has said that the Southeast Asian regional anti-corruption forum has been successful in formulating recommendations to enhance regional cooperation in the anti-corruption sector.

"Cross-jurisdiction cooperation in investigations and prosecutions is among the main principles proposed (during the forum), which KPK successfully proved earlier," KPK news department head Ali Fikri informed in a statement released on Thursday.

The anti-graft commission earlier participated in the “Regional Anti-Corruption Conference for Law Enforcement Professionals in Southeast Asia,” which was conducted in a hybrid format in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 29 to 31, 2022, he said.

A recommendation on anti-corruption measures for Southeast Asian law enforcement professionals was finalized on the last day of the forum, the official noted.

"The document recommended the government and relevant authorities in Southeast Asian countries to take initiatives in anti-corruption measures," Fikri said.

He pointed out that the forum recommended enhancing regional and international cooperation in cross-jurisdiction corruption investigation and prosecution.

"The forum recommended the enhancement of cooperation between financial intelligence agencies and on the prosecution of regional corruption cases, enhancement of reciprocal legal assistance efficiency, and other forms of international cooperation," the KPK department head informed.

"The regional forum also recommended some points on the prevention of money laundering and transfer of proceeds of crime, improvement of international cooperation for asset recovery, as well as for asset confiscation and its management," Fikri informed.

During the event, KPK chairperson Firli Bahuri served as the speaker of high-level panel 1 with the discussion theme covering corruption eradication challenges and practices in Southeast Asia.

The anti-corruption agency also shared experiences and successes in efforts to recover corruption and money laundering assets through cooperation between national governments and law enforcement institutions.
