Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry strives to expedite recovery from COVID-19's impact on art and culture by voicing the importance of realizing global fund for art and culture recovery within the G20 meeting.

According to the government's press statement, Monday, the global fund initiative for the recovery of art and culture is part of the efforts to encourage art- and culture-based economic empowerment efforts.

Meanwhile, Director General of Culture at the Ministry Hilmar Farid noted that the series of G20 meetings in culture are crucial within the context of cultural development.

"The development of culture not only involves cultural artifacts or objects but also cultural actors or artists that create, maintain, and preserve culture," he explained.

"To this end, it is very important for cultural sector decision makers, specifically G20 countries, to listen to the voice and aspiration of cultural practitioners and realize a policy that mirrors the people's aspiration," he added.

The G20 series of meetings in culture are also expected to bolster the role of culture in the efforts to preserve the planet, he said.

"This can be achieved through real actions, so that sustainable living practices can support economic recovery," he noted.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology holds the final G20 Senior Official Meeting and Culture Ministers’ Meeting in the Borobudur Temple Compound in Magelang, Central Java, on September 11–14, 2022.

Global Arts and Culture Recovery Fund (GACRF), the global fund scheme initiated by the Indonesian Presidency, continues to be promoted within the meeting to encourage recovery of the culture sector.

Indonesia expects that discussions on the global fund will be continued by India as the next host country for G20.
