Earlier, 6,826 police personnel were prepared to secure the event, but the National Police Headquarters instructed that their number be augmented by 20 percent, Bali Police chief, Inspector General Putu Jayan Danu Putra, informed in Bali on Monday.
"It was planned that around 6,826 personnel would secure the event. But, yesterday (September 11), we received instructions from the National Police Headquarters that the number will be increased by 20 percent," Putra said.
If additional personnel are deployed, the number of personnel securing the summit will increase by 1,365. Thus, the total number of personnel deployed to secure the summit would reach 8,191. However, Putra said that the additional personnel will serve as a reserve force.
Personnel from the Bali Police and the National Police Headquarters' Under Operation Control (BKO) will jointly secure the G20 Summit, he informed.
"Without additional help from BKO's personnel, Bali's police will be running out of police officers to carry out our routine activities. Therefore, we need a backup from the National Police Headquarters to complete the required number of personnel," Putra disclosed.
Meanwhile, the Regional Military Commander (Pangdam) IX/Udayana and Commander of the Bali Regional Security Task Force for the G20, Major General Sonny Aprianto, said that his party is planning to deploy six thousand soldiers to help the police secure the activities of the G20 Summit.
He said he will also place two thousand soldiers on standby to anticipate natural disasters.
"As many as two thousand personnel have been prepared for the Disaster Evacuation Task Force. We will also anticipate if a natural disaster occurs during the implementation of the G20. Therefore, we have formed an Evacuation Task Force," Aprianto informed.
The G20 Disaster Evacuation Task Force would be led by IX Udayana Military Area Command Chief of Staff (Kasdam), he added.
The preparation of the Disaster Evacuation Task Force is an anticipatory measure by Kodam IX/Udayana in view of the fact that Bali faces 11 potential disaster threats, including volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.
