"The 2022 Indonesia International Series is ready to be implemented. Since Thursday (September 15), GOR Among Rogo has been prepared and adjusted, with progress reaching 95 percent, as of now," Chairperson of the 2022 Indonesia International Series Committee Armand Darmadji said here on Monday.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Yogyakarta Provincial Badminton Association Board (PBSI) Suhartono welcomed the badminton tournament, which will be held again in Yogyakarta after a five-year vacuum. He said he expected that the championship can discover national tankers who can make the nation proud in international competitions.
"It is an honor for Yogyakarta to be able to hold an international badminton tournament because, in addition to being a cultural, students' (education), and tourism city, Yogyakarta may also be called the city of badminton," Suhartono noted.
"There are always national badminton players emerging from Yogyakarta, such as Finarsih, Tri Kusharjanto, Sigit Budiarto, Fransiska Ratnasari, Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka, to Muhammad Rian Ardianto. Hopefully, this tournament will spur the birth of potential badminton players from Yogyakarta," he added.
Furthermore, there are two athletes from the national training center (pelatnas) who will participate in the tournament, Syabda Perkasa Belawa for the men's singles and Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi in the women's singles.
"I am happy to be back in Yogyakarta to compete, I cannot wait. Hopefully, I can bring out all my best abilities," Belawa said.
"My preparation has been great; It is just a matter of how I will play on the court. Hopefully, it can be maximized," Dewi commented.
According to Darmadji, the 11 participating countries and states include Australia, Austria, Estonia, Iran, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, the United States, and Indonesia.
