Specifically, orchid cultivation will support the fulfillment of the eighth goal of Village SDGs of egalitarian village economic growth, he noted through a statement on Monday.
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), East Java successfully managed to produce 4.2 million orchids in 2020, he remarked.
"In East Java, 301 villages already export their primary products," he noted during the 2022 Batu International Orchid Show held in Batu, East Java, Sunday.
In line with the BPS data, he lauded the growth of orchid cultivation in several villages in East Java.
To this end, he deemed that the opportunity for orchid cultivation in East Java to penetrate the international market is wide open.
This is because the export for village primary products was realized by 2,042 villages in Indonesia.
He expects that the opportunity to expand orchid cultivation will continue to be consolidated to all villages in East Java.
"This potential has to be synergized with the villages in East Java by providing orchid cultivation training to villagers and encouraging orchid cultivation for villages that can grow orchids," the minister noted.
Meanwhile, the eighth SDG aims to support the growth of villages' gross domestic product (GDP) and also facilitates access for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), he noted.
Moreover, it aims to reduce the level of open unemployment to zero percent that also affects the Village Cash Labour Intensive Work (PKTD), so that it is able to absorb more than 50 percent of unemployed in villages.
