Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, while delivering a speech at the general debate of the 77th United Nations General Assembly, proposed the paradigm of collaboration to surmount numerous global challenges.

"Today, I would like to offer you a world based on a new paradigm. A paradigm of win-win, not of zero-sum. A paradigm of engagement, not of containment. A paradigm of collaboration, not of competition. This is the transformative solution that we need," Minister Marsudi said in a statement obtained here on Tuesday.

According to Marsudi, such a collaboration paradigm is deemed necessary to facing the current concerning world conditions wherein the pandemic persists and the global economy remains sluggish, war among nations is no longer a possibility but a reality, and violation of international law that has become a norm in pursuit of narrow self-interests.

"Crisis after crisis is unfolding around the world ... climate change, rising inflation, food and energy shortages. The world should become united to overcome it, but unfortunately, the world is divided, making it difficult for us to try to overcome this condition," Marsudi stated at the opening of her speech at the United Nations on Monday (Sept 26) in New York, the United States.

To this end, the Government of Indonesia called for the need for a world order based on a new paradigm at the 77th UN General Assembly.

According to the Indonesian foreign minister, the new paradigm is important to apply for several reasons, including to reignite the spirit of peace.

Marsudi said that the trust deficit among countries breeds hatred and fear and may lead to conflict, and such phenomena are witnessed in several parts of the world.

Hence, the minister called on all parties to turn the trust deficit into strategic trust.

"It starts with upholding respect for international law. The fundamental principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity are non-negotiable. These principles must always be upheld. Meanwhile, peaceful solution is the only option to settle any conflicts," she remarked.

Minister Marsudi emphasized that Indonesia will continue to be with Palestine in fighting for its independence. As for Afghanistan, Indonesia is committed to helping fight for the rights and access to education for women and girls in Afghanistan to be granted.

According to Marsudi, the second reason behind applying the collaboration paradigm is to revive shared responsibility for global recovery.

The minister noted that currently, global solidarity was receding, with trade discrimination rampant everywhere, in addition to global supply chain monopolies, and global economic governance is used for the benefit of powerful countries.

To this end, she said, the world was pinning hopes on G20 being a catalyst of global economic recovery, especially for developing countries.

"The G20 must not fail to be a catalyst for world recovery. We cannot let global recovery fall at the mercy of geopolitics," she stated.

Marsudi further called for the need for a new paradigm to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and to fight climate change.

In addition, she emphasized that the collaboration paradigm is important to strengthen regional partnerships.

Regional architecture should not be used to confine and isolate certain countries. Regional architecture should be able to support efforts to maintain peace and stability and not endanger them, the minister emphasized.

Lastly, Marsudi stressed that the new paradigm of collaboration should become the spirit of the UN.

"Inclusive and meaningful engagement must trump above take it or leave it approach, whereas, the voices of all countries -- big and small, developed and developing -- must equally matter," she stated.

"That is why we need a strong and reformed UN. That is why we need renewed multilateralism that is fit for purpose and that is fit for its time," she affirmed.

However, Marsudi also expressed confidence that by working together and adopting a new paradigm, countries along with the people can create a better world for all.

"It is no longer the time to talk the talk. Now, is the time to walk the talk," she concluded.
