Jakarta (ANTARA) - Distribution Director of state-owned electricity provider PT PLN Adi Priyanto confirmed that his side will continue the trial of a program to replace three-kg LPG stoves with induction stoves despite the program been declared cancelled.

"(The trial) runs in Solo (Central Java) and Denpasar (Bali). We will see later the behavior of the consumers, and then, we will note what the weaknesses (of using induction stoves) are and what the advantages are. Of course, we will report to the government," Priyanto noted at the SOEs Coffee Talk event here on Thursday.

Priyanto remarked that the LPG-to-induction stove conversion program had been canceled at the government's request based on the socio-economic conditions of the community in Indonesia. Likewise, the plan to procure induction stoves, which is targeted to reach 300 thousand units, had also been officially canceled.

According to Priyanto, PLN sees an opportunity in the development of electric stoves. To this end, PLN has been urged to continue the trial or pilot project in two cities: Solo and Denpasar.

"One thousand (stoves) in Denpasar and one thousand in Solo. We will see first the development and monitor the people's behavior in using induction stoves," he remarked.

Meanwhile, the Special Staff of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister, Arya Sinulingga, said that PLN is only abiding by the government's instructions regarding the conversion program. Although the trial is continued to run, he highlighted that the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is the one with the authority as the regulator of the policy.

Earlier, PLN had officially canceled the LPG-to-induction stove conversion program for the people's comfort amid economic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

"PLN decided to cancel the conversion program to electric stoves. PLN is here to provide comfort for the community through reliable electricity supply," PLN President Director Darmawan stated on Tuesday.
