"We have prepared our contingency plan properly in mitigating the earthquake and tsunami disaster risks," BMKG Chairperson Dwikorita Karnawati noted, as per the statement received here, Saturday.
Karnawati affirmed that the agency will constantly monitor contingency plans and disaster mitigation preparations with relevant institutions.
"We will continue our routine checks with relevant institutions to ensure a successful G20 Summit. We hope our endeavour will be smooth," the chairperson noted.
The authority has readied various measures to address potential risks from a possible 8.5-magnitude earthquake that can generate high tsunamis in Bali's coastal areas in 20 to 38 minutes, she said.
"We hope the G20 Summit would be (held in a) smooth (manner), and there will be no earthquake or tsunami, yet if the disaster strikes later, the BMKG, disaster mitigation agencies, and the police and the military are ready to tackle the worst-case scenario," Karnawati affirmed.
The focus of the mitigation measure will be to ensure the safety of heads of state attending the G20 Summit in the event of an earthquake and tsunami, she noted.
The agency's chairperson said that the BMKG has readied early-warning and emergency quick response systems, including evacuation routes, signs, and areas, in synergy with relevant authorities and emergency response teams.
Among places prepared for evacuation centres are the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport's VVIP Terminal, The Apurva Kempinski Bali, and Ngurah Rai Mangrove Forest area, she pointed out.
The BMKG also ensured that building and other areas hosting the G20 Summit in Bali can withstand earthquakes of up to 8.5-magnitude, she added.
Karnawati expressed optimism that since relevant preparations had been made since last year, losses and casualties can be reduced if natural disasters struck during the G20 Summit.
"God willing, BMKG's target (in the G20 Summit) is zero casualty and zero losses," the agency head remarked.
