Jakarta (ANTARA) - The joint independent fact-finding team investigating the Kanjuruhan Stadium stampede that claimed 131 lives on October 1, 2022, obtained inputs from representatives of football supporters nationwide on Thursday.

"Today, we have met colleagues representing football supporters. They have so many things to say. We will discuss and evaluate (the findings) with the team before coming to a conclusion, which we will deliver later," fact-finding team member Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto said at a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal, and Security Affairs’ office here, which was followed online from here on Thursday.

The fact-finding team earlier received at least 30 representatives of football supporters at the coordinating ministry’s office, he disclosed.

During the meeting, a representative of football supporters Andie Peci expressed the hope that Indonesia's football sport will recover from the tragedy and it will be improved to achieve a better national football environment.

"We express our utmost condolences on the humanitarian tragedy in Kanjuruhan. We hope that the government -- represented by the fact-finding team -- can work more objectively to restore everything to normalcy," Peci said.

Representing football supporters nationwide, he urged the team to unveil the truth of the tragedy and make all those responsible for it accountable.

"We do not want (the investigation) only to conclude, but it must be made clear who is responsible and what penalty awaits them. Those aspects need to be addressed promptly," the representative said.

Meanwhile, fact-finding team member Akmal Mahali expressed his gratitude to public members who contributed to the investigation by providing inputs and testimonies to the team and affirmed the team's openness to all forms of public input.

"The fact-finding team will be open to all inputs, suggestions, and criticism in the investigation process to conceive the best ways to develop a new system for Indonesian football in the future," Mahali said.
