Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is cooperating with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to improve the competitiveness and branding of business players in the tourism and creative economy sectors.

"In general, this project focuses on increasing the added value of tourism and creative economy products and services through intellectual property. The increase in added value from the intellectual property will push an increase in business competitiveness," Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno stated here on Thursday.

Uno noted that branding project is essential to boost the competitiveness of business players in the tourism and creative economy sectors. To this end, the ministry agreed to ink a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with WIPO.

The MoU is a result of collaboration between and the work of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that was able to invite WIPO to realize concrete cooperation that is expected to offer real benefits to business players.

Minister Uno explained that President Joko Widodo had issued Government Regulation Number 24 of 2022 regarding the Creative Economy on July 12, 2022, which is hoped to ease creative economy players' access to financing.

"This Government Regulation Number 24 will be finalized and disseminated in the form of a pilot project, and the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy will promote 5 to 10 creative economy products that are based on HAKI (intellectual property rights) that we will encourage to get financing," he stated.

The cooperation aims to improve the added value of local products through intellectual property, especially brands and designs. The cooperation also includes efforts to enhance the competitiveness of local products and their potential.

The cooperation especially also covers the field of marketing and increasing profits, as well as in terms of training and capacity building to establish intellectual property facilitation services in Indonesia.

The minister expressed optimism that amid current global economic uncertainties and inflation, investment and financing in the tourism and creative economy sectors would remain available through the facilitation provided by the government and Penta helix collaboration.

"I see that investment in the next 5-10 years will be bright because we have eight SEZs (Special Economic Zones) and 12 national tourism projects, and we are even targeting to be able to attract 6-8 billion US dollars in investment," he stated.
